Oklahoma City, OK (August 10, 2022) – Jason Bollinger, Democratic candidate to unseat extremist U.S. Senator James Lankford, released the following statement regarding his opponent, Madison Horn, in the Democratic run-off election on August 23.
“With each passing day, Madison is acting and sounding more like incumbent Senator James Lankford than someone who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate. First, she called herself a conservative and referred to those benefiting from Medicaid expansion as ‘bad apples,’ which sounds like something an extremist like James Lankford would say.”
“As we have traveled the state the past eleven months, and particularly since the primary on June 28th, the topic of a public debate has arisen frequently with voters. But just like Senator Lankford, Madison Horn refuses to debate the issues with me before the August 23 run-off election. Despite numerous outlets and organizations—including the Oklahoma Democratic Party—requesting to organize a debate, Madison has either declined or ignored the requests. She is either unwilling to publicly defend her positions, or she is simply trying to ride the coincidence of sharing a last name with Congresswoman Kendra Horn to the nomination. Either way, Madison’s refusal to debate deprives voters of the opportunity to hear from both candidates on important policy issues side-by-side before they go to the polls.”
“We are running to be the voice of Oklahomans in the greatest deliberative body in history. If Madison is unwilling to participate in a public debate, how could anyone expect her to stand up to extremist James Lankford or stand up for Oklahomans on the floor of the U.S. Senate? Oklahomans deserve to hear from us exactly where we stand on the issues and not have to depend on slick campaign material. Nothing short of our democracy is on the line this election cycle. This election is too important to elect anyone who refuses to answer to the public. Let me be clear—should Madison Horn find the time and fortitude for a public debate in these last thirteen days, I am ready and willing.”
